Hey there :) [16 Oct 2008|06:36pm]

kinda_famous
First I'll introduce myself. I'm Melissa, a student at American River College, and I'm relatively new to the Sacramento area still (almost two years now).

Now my point:
Opinions and thoughts on the recall election coming up next week at ARC and all the buzz that surrounds it? I have my opinions, but that's for my journal (which you're welcome to check out), but I want to know what you guys think. This is my second semester in the Los Rios district and I still need to figure out the dynamics of student relations at ARC :)

California - Vote NO on Prop 8! [15 Oct 2008|04:09pm]

queerunity
This November 4th your vote has the power to influence millions of lives. The California supreme court legalized marriage for gay/lesbian couples effectively giving them access to hundreds of rights such as the right to file joint taxes, and visit a loved one in the hospital. Now extremists want to take that right away under the guise that they are protecting marriage. From who? Straight couples are not affected by loving gay couples having the right to commit to one another. Let us not put hate into the constitution and vote on the right side of history. Regardless of your opinion on the issue, please vote for basic fairness and providing 1,049 rights and benefits to same-sex couples.

VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8!

Fat Tire Bike & Appetite Enhancement Ride [17 Aug 2008|11:00am]

dawg2501
It may seem a little early to post this, but as this may affect your Thanksgiving plans:

Every Thanksgiving morning, the Rubicon Brewery and other sponsors put out a free buffet and free beer at Sacramento's Towe Auto Museum. Then, after a few hours, everybody heads out into the Capitol, riding bicycles all the way. By some estimates crowds push 400.

Think Critical Mass with more free beer. And free food.

Be sure to check out the Facebook event for more info.

I'm looking for a room to rent around June 26th [17 Apr 2008|08:04am]

xmeta
I'm starting early, trying to find out if there's a place out there. My lease with my current roomie runs up June 26th.

I would prefer a month to month lease and utilities included in the price of rent in a place that is close to campus.

I have a male, neutered cat who has his paws capped with caps so that he can't (nor does he in the first place) claw and tear at furniture. He's sweet, does not spray, and is the most affectionate cat ever. He's strictly indoors and has had all his shots (including rabies).

I am:

-Obsessively clean
-A full time CSUS CRJ student
-A part time employee of CSUS
-Very busy most of the time
-Quiet and I like to keep to myself

Will not live with:

-People who smoke
-Drink excessively
-Are loud and throw numerous parties
-Allow strange men to sleep on the couch every night of the week
-People who are dirty and do not clean up their own messes

Reply if interested.

Please do not post a reply if you don't have meaningful input related to this post.

I've live in the bay area [Fremont] for 18 years. I moved to southern CA to attend college[California State University, Fullerton]. This year, I'm graduating with a B.A. in American Studies[I study American Culture].

I applied to Sacramento State's History/Humanities program and got in. I'm still deciding if I want to stay here in Fullerton and get my masters or go to Sacramento State.

Does anyone have feedback on the school/program/area?

I'm vegan, I ride my bike everywhere, I dumpster dive, love art shows and museums....

is there anything out there I might enjoy? any vegan resturants and health food stores?

As you know, tomorrow is Super Tuesday, where more than 22 states will hold their primaries or caucuses—one state which will be California. I am voting for BARACK OBAMA because I feel that he has the necessary experience to serve this country and has also utilized grassroots efforts to engage and excite millions of people, transcending race, ethnicity, gender, ability, immigrant status, political party, etc. These past couple of months, America has seen someone who can CHANGE policies and the lives of many, give the ordinary person HOPE for a better tomorrow and has done so with INTEGRITY, RESPECT and POISE.

Counting down the hours before Super Tuesday begins, I wanted to share a new independent video about BARACK OBAMA. For me, it embodies the sense of inspiration that so many people feel about his candidacy. Words don't do it justice, you have to watch it for yourself

I hope you will join me in voting for Barack Obama. Find your polling place: http://my.barackobama.com/CAlookup

It's time to put an end to the say-anything-to-win politics of the past. Together we can face the challenges of the future with a new kind of politics and a new kind of leadership. If you already know where you'll be voting on Tuesday, take a minute to invite five of your friends to look up their polling place:http://my.barackobama.com/CAlookup or in CA you can call the state registrars office at 1-800-345-VOTE

Thanks!

BTW here are some pix from Fridays Obama rally outside of Kerckhoff Hall at UCLA with Tatyana Ali, Max Kennedy (RFK's son), Kerry Washington, and California State Majority Assemblymember Karen Bass + some pix from yesterdays Obama rally at Pauley Pavilion (UCLA) with Oprah, Caroline Kennedy, Michelle Obama, Stevie Wonder and surprise guest Maria Shriver

Most of the pictures are under the cut because they are pretty big

Here are a few details and rules that will help make the voting process run smoothly. Make sure to share these with your friends:

*Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to at least 8:00 p.m. Anyone in line at the time the polls close is allowed to vote.

*Voters have the right to cast a provisional ballot even if their name is not listed on the voting rolls. If a voter is at the wrong polling location and has time to get to the correct polling location before polls close at 8:00 p.m., they should go to the correct one and vote with a regular ballot instead of voting with a provisional ballot at the wrong location.

*If you declined to select a political party when you registered to vote, you can still vote for Barack Obama if you request a Democratic ballot from the poll worker. Make sure you mark "Democratic" in the appropriate space or the vote might not be counted.

*Voters have the right to return a completed vote-by-mail ballot to any precinct in their county.

*If you have any difficulties, you can call the California Obama Election Protection Hotline:
o LOS ANGELES: (310) 801-9546 or (310) 779-0816
o SAN FRANCISCO/BAY AREA: (510) 520-5025
o OAKLAND/EAST BAY: (415) 606-6043
o SAN DIEGO: (619) 770-7105
*************

find your polling place in CA: http://my.barackobama.com/CAlookup or call the state registrars office at 1-800-345-VOTE

In other states please google your state registrars office or visit: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/statepages

[ mood | hopeful ]

it's disgusting to me when people steal from us broke people,
especially those of us that are trying to educate ourselves in order to change our lives for the good.

last thursday in the morning i got jacked at Sac City of my wallet, keys, and textbooks from the men's locker room. i had them locked only for an hour, which was enough time.

if anyone knows anything, suspects something, has lately been the target of something similar, or has been offered to buy an Intro to Film textbook called The Art of Watching Films, or a journalism/communication text called The Media of Mass Communication --- let me know!

I found out that the rat, or someone involved, sold my Mass Media book to the Student Book Exchange, which bought the book unknown to them it's stolen condition.

Thank you and stay safe.

Calworks friendly apartments? [17 Oct 2005|12:58am]

gothkitten81
Hello. Does anybody here know of calworks friendly apartment complexes? My husband and I fell on hard times and ended up on calworks and going to college full time as well as raising our toddler.

We are having trouble finding an apartment complex that is calworks friendly and doesnt need a /huge/ deposit or require 2-3times the rent as income..we have semi-bad credit from some bad times a while back,
my husband has a good state job he is in the screening process for so it wouldnt be lower income for long once we get this job. We are looking for a large studio or 1 bedroom in the 500 dollar range..

Some people have told us to try section 8 for now but all that has closed even their waiting lists, so does anybody know of a complex that would work with us? Please let me know, we are trying really hard to get out of this loop of calworks and need a place to live to do that..thanks so much
